Why did you choose PR/media relations/digital?

Public relations appealed to me because there is always something new to learn. Every day, new trends, platforms and current events emerge that impact your work in public relations. While we can’t control the world around us, public relations gives us the opportunity to turn any challenge into a win. With the right strategy, an organization or company can overcome most challenges with a strong public relations strategy.

When are you the happiest?

I’m the happiest when I’m laughing and joking with my family in the backyard.

If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it (not work-related)?

If I had an extra hour each day, I would spend it playing my saxophone. I started playing in the band at 10 years old and have loved it ever since! I played in different ensembles all the way through college. I haven’t played much since I graduated, so I would love to take more time to focus on music.

What’s an activity you have always wanted to try, but haven’t had the chance to?

I really enjoy traveling and want to visit all 50 states and all seven continents. While I’ve yet to travel out of the country, I am making my way through the US. I want to really experience the different cultures around the world and make new memories.

What are some things others probably wouldn’t know about you or “fun facts”?

  • I was featured on NBC News on a segment about the economy for recent college graduates. It was completely random, but really cool to be featured on the national news. Most of the online views probably came from my family members.
  • I am a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I joined while attending High Point University and served as chapter president during my senior year. I am proud to be a member of my sorority and blessed to have hundreds of thousands of sisters worldwide. Even after I’ve graduated, the connections I’ve made through my sorority, both professional and personal, are valuable.
  • In my free time, I like to bake. My current obsession is cookies, so I’m working on perfecting different recipes and combinations.

What is one talent you wished you had?

I wish I could sing! As someone who has spent so much time studying music, it is frustrating to not even hold a tune.

What is the best advice you could give someone looking to start their career in PR?

My best advice for aspiring PR professionals would be to stay informed. Reading different articles or watching videos helps you gain new perspectives and ideas. I pick up so many tips and tricks just by reading other people’s work and seeing their placements. It’s also a good way to see what’s working and what’s not, so you don’t make those same mistakes.
